Why Shadow Works Security Is Different

Shadow Works Security has applied to become the first licensed security agency in the State of Oklahoma that is also licensed as an Emergency Medical Response Agency (EMRA).

What does this mean for our clients and the public?

As a licensed EMRA, our operators can also serve as licensed emergency medical responders, providing care under established medical protocols and the direction of our Medical Director, Dr. Stormy Walkup, D.O.

Even at the entry level, our medical operators are trained to provide life-saving interventions that go beyond what the average person can perform with basic CPR or Stop the Bleed training. Depending on their certification level, our personnel may include Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs), Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Advanced EMTs (AEMTs), and Paramedics.

While the ultimate goal is always rapid transport to the appropriate hospital, those first few minutes before an ambulance arrives are often the most critical. Although our personnel do not transport patients, they are already on scene and able to begin life-saving care while EMS is responding.

Imagine one of our operators is on duty at your business when a customer suddenly collapses from cardiac arrest or an employee suffers a traumatic injury with severe bleeding. Instead of waiting helplessly for emergency responders to arrive, our operators can immediately assess the situation and begin critical interventions that could save a life.

On average, an ambulance may take 7–9 minutes to arrive after being dispatched under ideal conditions. That response time does not include the time it takes for someone to recognize the emergency, call 911, and provide the dispatcher with the necessary information.

During cardiac arrest, permanent brain damage can begin within 4–6 minutes without effective CPR and defibrillation. In cases of severe uncontrolled bleeding, a person can lose a life-threatening amount of blood in just a few minutes. These are the moments when immediate action can make the difference between life and death.

Our operators are trained to bridge that critical gap until EMS arrives, providing rapid medical intervention that can significantly improve a patient’s chance of survival.

Every Shadow Works Tactical Operator—from Tactical Operator I through Tactical Operator V—must successfully complete a rigorous training program before being assigned to work independently.

Training is conducted by experienced instructors, including a Critical Care Paramedic with more than 30 years of emergency medical experience. This commitment to training ensures our operators have the confidence, professionalism, and skills needed to protect lives when every second counts.

At Shadow Works Security, we don’t just protect people—we are trained to save lives.

Operators Level I - V

Level I

Level I Operator - Level I Operators are the foundation of Shadow Works Security medical response program.  Every Level I Operator is certified in:

  • American Heart Association (AHA) CPR
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • American Heart Association First Aid
  • Stop the Bleed

These Operators are trained to recognize medical emergencies, take immediate action, and provide life-saving care during the critical minutes before the arrival of the local EMS.

Level II

A Level II Operator has successfully completed all Level I training requirements and is also a State of Oklahoma Certified Emergency Medical Responder (EMR).

A Certified EMR is trained to:

  • Perform Patient assessments and recognize life-threatening emergencies.
  • Provide high-quality CPR and use an AED.
  • Manage Basic airways and assist with breathing emergencies using approved equipment.
  • Assist with basic medical emergencies, including diabetic emergencies, allergic reactions, seizures, and opioid overdoses.
  • and so much more than the average guard or persons with CPR and Stop the bleed training.

Level III

An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) builds upon the skills of an EMR by providing a broader scope of emergency medical care.  EMTs are trained to assess, stabilize, and manage both medical and traumatic emergencies while providing advanced Basic Life Support (BLS) interventions until patient care can be transferred to Advanced Life Support (ALS) providers or a facility.

In addition to all Level II (EMR) skills, an EMT is trained to:

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessment and ongoing patient monitoring.
  • Utilize advanced airway adjuncts and provide ventilation with a bag-valve mask (BVM).
  • Assist patient with the administration of certain medications.
  • Manage a wider range of medical emergencies, including respiratory distress, chest pain, diabetic emergencies, allergic reactions, seizures, strokes, and traumatic injuries to name a few.
